Team Liquid vs FlyQuest

The 2022 LCS Championship is finally here and, by the looks of it, it's going to deliver in every way, shape, and form! To start things off, we have the four-time LCS champions Team Liquid taking on the boys in white and green: FlyQuest! It's not the most enticing of match-ups, in all fairness, but whatever it might lack in unpredictability, it'll more than make up for in sheer entertainment value!

Now, let's get one thing perfectly clear: Team Liquid are better in every conceivable way and they should definitely be able to prove it, too. The gap between them and FlyQuest is tremendous -- nay: insurmountable. They're in entirely different leagues talent-wise and this chasm of sorts cannot and will not be narrowed any time soon. FlyQuest are actually quite good, but once you compare them to a veritable giant like Team Liquid, their true strengths and weaknesses -- to say nothing of their long-term potential (or lack thereof) -- become a lot more obvious.

They're good overall but only when observed within a vacuum. And, well, their current position in the standings sort of paints the whole picture: they're ranked sixth, which means they're the very definition of a "feisty gatekeeper." That's... not really a prestigious role, all things considered, but it *is* the one they've been assigned, and it's probably not going to change any time soon.

Team Liquid are by no means a towering behemoth, though, and their many ups and downs throughout this year serve as proof. They're... confusingly out of sync and, at times, quite fragile. They're incapable of "huddling up" and delivering in those late game, high octane moments and we, for one, do not understand why. Their players, when observed in isolation, have all the talent and experience in the world. But it is only when they start playing as a five-man unit that the cracks really start to show.

The thing is, they're not playing at their best whenever they're on stage -- something's getting in the way of them truly spreading their proverbial wings. Everyone's been saying just how incredible they've been in scrims but we've yet to see that supposed prowess on-stage. They're not bad or anything, but they're not as dangerous or commanding as, say, Evil Geniuses or 100 Thieves. Now, granted, their issues shouldn't be too hard to fix, but they've had more than enough time to do so and yet they still struggle a bit more often than we'd like.

Will they finally tackle and overcome this most worrying hurdle now that they've reached the postseason? Who knows! They definitely have the talent and experience to do so, but we cannot help but worry given their tremendous volatility. They have five exceptional players, veterans that have more talent than they know what to do with, but they still have differing ideas on how the game should be played. They're not on the same page, their instincts are not aligned -- hence their many struggles.

Will that be a problem against FlyQuest? Probably not, but that's only because they're amongst the least capable contenders in the 2022 LCS Championship. Evil Geniuses and 100 Thieves, on the other hand, have that oft-talked about "killer instinct," which simply isn't the case with the boys in white and blue. They're more regal, more reserved. They're not as aggressive and their play lacks impetus.

That, fortunately, isn't going to be much of an issue given whom they're scheduled to face. FlyQuest, while undoubtedly capable and feisty, simply aren't on the same level. That won't stop them from putting up a fight, however, so do make sure to tune in. They're a solid team with fairly pronounced strengths and weaknesses and they should, by all means, be able to trade blows (at least for a little while). Certain members of their team are truly world-class. Others, however, still aren't quite ready to compete on the LCS stage.

Regardless, there's a lot to like, and they should, by all means, be able to further grow and evolve over the coming months. This, therefore, will be a good litmus test for everyone involved. Team Liquid need to make a statement and win in as tremendous a fashion as they possibly can -- now is the time to build up hype and generate as much momentum as humanly possible. FlyQuest, on the other hand, have a pretty low bar to meet. No one's expecting them to win so anything other than a lopsided clean sweep will automatically be deemed a success.

They'll also be able to test their "might" against a veritable top-tier team -- in a Best of 5, no less. That's nothing to scoff at and it could, by all means, end up motivating them even further (assuming they actually end up putting up a fight). All FlyQuest need to pull off a "CLG" is a better, more experienced top laner and they'd be good to go. Their highs are quite impressive, and we've seen just how good they can be whenever the proverbial stars align.

Be that as it may, they're still a bit too rough around the edges, and even though Team Liquid *will* give them openings, FlyQuest probably won't be good and precise enough to capitalize and punish. Still, they'll give the former four-time LCS champions and run for their money and that, as far as we're concerned, is more than enough.
