T1 vs G2 Esports

What a truly spectacular way to start things off. We're at a loss for words here: T1 vs. G2 has fireworks written all over it and, needless to say, we can't wait to see what'll happen once these two teams take the stage and start trading the heaviest of blows in front of a live audience in Busan, South Korea.

T1 are the favorites. That much is clear and obvious, but there's also a very real chance that G2 could pull off an upset -- and it wouldn't be the first time, either. The LEC representatives actually have a better score in their head-to-head with T1, although they got the majority of their wins with a noticeably different line-up, so it's not exactly an "apples-to-apples" comparison. Still, it's something worth keeping in mind, a tidbit, if you will, and also an indication that LCK royalty can, in fact, "bleed." G2 have beaten them many a time in the past and while that in no way guarantees a favorable result this time around it is nonetheless proof that the gap between Korea and Europe isn't nearly as large as was the case just a few years ago.

So, here's the thing: we simply cannot predict which of these two teams will come out on top. We have a fairly solid sample size at our disposal but none of it is viable information, what with both T1 and G2 running circles around their (quite flawed) opposition. We still have no idea just how good they really are and how well they're going to fare against each other. On the one hand, that's quite an exciting thing. On the other, we, too, are wary of making any sort of prediction. There are simply too many intangibles at play, too many question marks and elements that could easily sway the game in one direction or another. And that, in short, is a really dangerous "set up" for one to bet on.

G2 have more flaws and weaknesses, all of which T1 could, in theory, exploit. Then again, they're much more creative and flexible. They're aggressive, too, and are always willing to throw down and trade blows no matter if it's good for them or not. That, naturally, is quite a double-edged sword, but it's also the kind of thing they'll need if they intend on trading blows with a team as layered and capable as T1.

They have a shot. That much is a fact. And, well, if caPs comes out swinging -- and is given the right champion, enough agency, and ample room to maneuver -- G2 could very well end up pulling off an upset. It might *seem* unlikely, but in actuality it is anything but. We've seen it happen in the past as well, so T1 would be wise not to underestimate their forthcoming opponents. This version of G2 is far more capable than we initially believed, and it's safe to say that their best days are yet to come; so keep an eye on them going forward as they're bound to make waves, despite facing some truly unfavorable odds.
