Misfits vs G2 Esports

To close things out, we have a truly fascinating clash between the former "Kings of Europe" G2 Esports and a feisty young challenger in Misfits Gaming. The experience gap between them is as vast as the cosmos itself, but you would never be able to tell based on their performances. G2, in all fairness, haven't been playing as well as we thought they would. They're not bad by any means but their games do leave a lot to be desired. They're not as aggressive or dominant as one would expect -- or as aggressive and dominant as they *should* be, given whom they have competing under their banner.

You'd think that Broken Blade, Jankos, and Caps would be enough for this team to steamroll through most of its opposition, but that hasn't been the case, at least not so far. Why that's so still remains to be seen, but it's a slightly worrying sign. They haven't been nearly as impressive as some of their more cohesive peers, and our early takeaway is that they're currently somewhat of a middling contender -- a middle of the pack kind of team. That, in short, is not a good role for one to assume or a place to be in when you have such a long and storied legacy of jaw-dropping dominance. But no one thought they'd be challenging for the throne with this line-up -- it was assembled with the bigger picture (and the long term) in mind. What we *did* expect was for them to at least come close and to give their more successful peers a run for their money. So far they've been pretty unsuccessful in their efforts, although by no means is it time to sound the alarms. This is still a supremely talented team and judging their play and long-term potential based on a five-game sample size simply wouldn't make any sense.

Misfits, on the other hand, have been a lot more impressive (relative to everyone's expectations). Admittedly, they've had a more favorable strength of schedule but the point still stands. It's impossible not to be blown away by their gutsy performances; and they're so darn young, too! If they're this good with so little experience, who knows how dominant and threatening they'll become in a few splits' time! The biggest question now is: will they be able to narrow the gap and truly challenge a (struggling) giant like G2? Will their youth and brazenness suffice against the former "kings?" Or will they, conversely, fumble once the going gets rough?

We're all dying to find out. This one game might not seem all that important, but there's a fair bit on the line for *both* of these teams. G2 want to make a statement and fend off a highly motivated challenger. Misfits, on the other hand, want to "break through" and put everyone on notice. We'll side with their more seasoned adversaries on this one, but it'll nonetheless be one heck of a fight!
