MAD Lions vs exceL

Betting on (or against) the MAD Lions has turned out to be quite a hassle. And, well, we're really putting it mildly here; the two-time LEC champs have regressed far more than we ever thought possible. We've been all doom and gloom about it for many weeks now and, frankly, things haven't gotten any better, despite them having more than enough time to fix their biggest issues and actually put up a fight.

This is MAD's final shot at relevancy and, if we were to be honest, they're probably not going to "make it count." All signs are pointing towards such a anti-climactic conclusion; it'd be a wholly bittersweet end to their two-split-long reign. They've fallen from grace about as fast as they first rose to prominence. There are two ways in which this whole thing could further unravel; the first one is rather simple -- they keep course and end up in seventh or even eighth place. The second one is the scenario we fear most and that is the possibility of them actually mounting some kind of "comeback." Now, that's perhaps too strong of a word for a team that has been so darn meek and incapable, but it's applicable nonetheless.

They still have three seasoned veterans within their ranks along with an incredibly capable coaching staff. Their issues are complex but they're not insurmountable -- they *can* be fixed with the right approach and guidance. The only thing that MAD *don't* have is time, and it's obviously of the utmost importance right now. The odds of them reaching playoffs are so slim we might as well ignore them entirely; the outlook is *that* bleak, and it's not going to change any time soon.

EXCEL are actually in a much better position. They've been playing some really impressive LoL and are motivated to finally leave a mark this time around. For an organization as unsuccessful as EXCEL, these moments are not only invaluable but also (potentially) historic. That's yet another word that is perhaps a bit too theatrical and loaded with superfluous opulence, but it's not incorrect. The mere fact that they're a part of the conversation is quite a tremendous accomplishment.

They're no giant, but they sure have been more cohesive than MAD. Heck, it's a night and day difference. On the one side we have a team that, while flawed, is playing with the utmost determination. EXCEL want to win and they want it badly -- everyone on that team has something to prove and wants to send a message. The Lions, while no less hungry for success, don't even have a solid enough foundation nor an identity through which they could compete and actually put up a fight. They're without shape and form -- a top-tier team only in appearance.

The Lions are favored, but there's really no rational explanation as to why that's the case, other than sheer name value and the fact that their resume is more stacked than that of EXCEEL's. But historic achievements mean nothing at this point -- now it's all about executing *in the heat of the moment* and that's something we no longer think MAD are capable of doing.
