G2 Esports vs Evil Geniuses

It feels like we've been here before and, well, that's because we *have*. G2 and EG have already played four games thus far and, well, the LEC champions were able to come out ahead in all four instances. These games, for the most part, were absolute, utter blowouts. Evil Geniuses, to their credit, were able to keep things somewhat competitive, but at no point did anyone watching actually wonder who the better team was.

They're from two vastly different leagues, two regions that don't have much in common when it comes to quality of play and overall depth. Evil Geniuses are good, if not even great at times, but they're not good *enough* to truly stand a chance against the likes of G2 Esports, T1, and Royal Never Give Up. They're stuck in limbo, is what they are, and there's no way whatsoever for them to change or alter their current (and most unfortunate) position.

They could, in theory, pull off an upset or two before everything is said and done, but we just don't see it happening. It's not impossible, granted, but it *is* unlikely. They're just not on the same level as some of their peers. That much is obvious. And while they, too, could evolve and grow from their (often quite lopsided) losses, it's still not going to be enough -- the gap between them and the "top dogs" is simply far too big at this point in time.

Regardless, they're better than most folks want to give them credit for and are not to be underestimated. G2 would be wise to prepare as best they can -- Evil Geniuses are motivated beyond measure to leave a mark in some way, shape, and form, and now that no one's expecting much from them they could, in theory, start playing a lot better. It's a stretch, we know, but by no means is it impossible. They're far more capable than their record would imply and, with the help of their few seasoned veterans, they always stand the chance at bouncing back and making a statement. Odds are, no such statement will be made, but at least they have a shot.

For Evil Geniuses, the only thing that's important at this point in time is for them to beat PSG Talon and Saigon Buffalo and, in doing so, reach the third and final stage of the tournament. We don't think they'll excel much in Best of 5s but it'd be ludicrous of us to write them off without first giving them a shot.

All in all, we're expecting a skirmish-heavy affair -- one from which G2 will come out victorious.
