Evil Geniuses vs G2 Esports

After witnessing Evil Geniuses go through a murderer's row over in North America — and actually come out on top — we had high hopes, and so did the hundreds of thousands of fans spread across the globe. Then came their opening clash with G2 Esports and, well, the hype was quickly and most tremendously dispersed and nullified.

They did nothing worthy of praise and respect, be it on an individual level *or* as a five-man unit. They struggled to keep up and were exploited and punished beyond measure. They did have a few standout moments, granted, but they were so few and far between that they simply couldn't amount to anything of note. Jojopyun, for instance, failed to adapt whatsoever and was constantly getting picked out of position and punished for his laning hubris. G2 knew *what* to do and *when* and they executed their game plan to a tee. Their draft, too, was quite unusual, and it probably caught Evil Geniuses off guard as much as it did us.

But it wasn't just their team comp that EG failed to react to but the way in which they played as well. G2 styled over EG with staggering ease, always on the offensive, always looking to make the game-winning play and eke out some kind of advantage. EG, in comparison, looked meek and feeble and without a plan in mind. They were worse in every which way and while a good chunk of their hesitancy *can* be attributed to the fact that it was their very first outing on the MSI stage, it was still an underwhelming showing from a team most folks thought would make waves.

And, in all fairness, they still could. We should by no means write them off this early on into the tournament. But to say that they have any hype or momentum behind their backs would be a blatant lie. ORDER, for instance, looked a fair bit better in their first game against G2 Esports, which isn't something any of us ever thought was possible.

So, we'll reserve judgement for the time being and await their next move. G2 are the better team. That much is obvious -- hopefully to everyone. That doesn't necessarily mean they're guaranteed to win, but they're definitely favored to come out on top for the second time in a row. Evil Geniuses could put up a bigger fight this time around but that probably isn't going to change the final outcome — there's simply too big of a gap.
