Team Liquid vs Evil Geniuses
TL vs. EG is in no way as hype as yesterday's clash, but if you've been following the 2022 LCS Spring Split, you probably knew as much. There's no intrigue and no mystery as to who's better — Team Liquid thrashed Evil Geniuses five out of six times this year. And that one loss? That came at the very *beginning* of 2022 back when they didn't even have their intended starting line-up.
That statistic is not only grim if you're an EG fan but also quite telling: there's no way whatsoever for Evil Geniuses to emerge triumphant. Miracles can happen, in all fairness, but this the odds of one happening *tonight* are second to none. Team Liquid are simply too good, too well rounded and capable, to say nothing of their vast, mind-blowing experience. They're as seasoned as possible and while EG certainly do have a few capable veterans of their own, they haven't been able to best TL thus far for a very good reason.
This version of Evil Geniuses is incredibly talented. Heck, it might be EG's best line-up to date! That, however, means very little seeing the kind of opposition they have to go up against. And by that we don't just mean Team Liquid, but Cloud9 and 100 Thieves, too. All three teams are better in one way or another. They might not be as good on a lane-by-lane basis, but they nonetheless have more synergy and have, therefore, been able to find a lot more success when compared to their (thoroughly struggling) peers clad in black and orange jerseys. How and why EG have been *this* darn inconsistent is anyone's guess. And, in all fairness, we stopped wondering quite a while ago. We'd love to see them succeed but until they get on the same page and actually mount an offensive as a unit, we'll simply have to divert our attention elsewhere — there are too many *other* great teams to be laser-focused on Evil Geniuses and their many fumbles of varying depth and egregiousness.
As already mentioned, Team Liquid are simply far too good to drop the ball against a flawed opponent like Evil Geniuses. They might not end up being as competitive as we expect them to, but they *will* win, and that's the only thing that matters. Evil Geniuses have a slew of issues they need to work on, which can, in theory, end up being a "positive" thing. They *know* what they're bad at and can, therefore, prioritize fixing the most pressing flaws and deficiencies. Whether they're capable enough to truly fix these blemishes and "defects" is up for debate, though. We have ample evidence that would suggest otherwise, but we're definitely willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Not too much of it, granted, but a reasonable sum nonetheless.
We really don't see Team Liquid losing a whopping three games tonight. It's not necessarily impossible, but they've dropped just *four* throughout the entire split, and that's definitely something one ought to keep in mind. They, too, are flawed and, at times, mighty inconsistent, but they should still be able to best EG even on the worst of days. They're better individually, they're more experienced, they have more cohesion and a clear game plan in mind any time they take the stage to compete. Evil Geniuses have very little to offer in that regard. That could very well change in a few months' time, but by then, most of their peers will have improved as well, which doesn't augur positively for EG and their odds of leaving a mark in 2022.
