Team Dignitas vs Evil Geniuses

For our opening match of the day we have an absolute doozy -- Team Dignitas vs Evil Geniuses! If things pan out as expected, this clash is bound to entertain us beyond all expectations.

Now, Team Dignitas didn't waste much time as they've demolished Counter Logic Gaming in their first 2020 outing. They were far from perfect, but it seemed like they had a clear game plan in mind from the moment they spawned on the Rift, and they executed it to a tee. They constantly rotated in order to secure objectives, they escaped danger when they had to and fought when the need arose, but it was their individual play that perhaps stood out the most. Huni, Grig, and Froggen played out of their minds and heavily outperformed their lane opponents. They were by no means perfect, but they were always ahead and in command of the game.

Overall, given what most people expected from them coming into the split, they've started off in rather spectacular fashion. It's still hard to fully assess their power level as the sample size we have is still bafflingly small, but they've done enough to make the region take notice. You can be sure that no one's going to underestimate them going forward. The amount of backlash the organization has been getting didn't make much sense either as they definitely have a well-rounded, highly dangerous roster. Now sure, some of their players might not be as good as they were in the past, but they're more than capable of reaching the playoffs and getting a couple of upsets along the way.

As for the Evil Geniuses, this will be the first time we see them on stage. In a way, no one's quite sure what to expect. There's a ton of potential, but seeing how they still haven't played on the LCS stage as a five-man line-up, it's hard to really predict how well they'll do. Talent isn't enough this early on into the season -- it's all about synergy and team cohesion. That, however, takes time to develop and it cannot come over night. So in that sense, Evil Geniuses might already look like a bona fide titan, or they might be completely out of sync. We won't know until we see them in action.

In any case, they're a frightening bunch, that's for sure, and they have all the right tools at their disposal to get the win. Whether or not they'll utilize them in their first week of play is an entirely different matter.

In the end, we'll side with Dignitas on this one, but do have in mind that this is far from a safe bet. Generally speaking, Evil Geniuses have more potential, but that doesn't mean they'll be able to realize it this early into the split. Conversely, Dignitas have already played their first game on the stage, they looked good, in sync, aggressive, and always willing to trade heavy blows. Getting that first "W" is incredibly important for a team's confidence, so they're entering this match with less pressure. By the same token, getting such a decisive win over Counter Logic Gaming must've done wonders for their confidence. The majority of the world considered CLG a much more talented line-up, and yet Dignitas didn't need much to completely dismantle them.

Again, it's too early to come to any concrete conclusion, but after seeing Dignitas dominate to such a degree, we simply have to give them our benefit of the doubt.
