Splyce vs DetonatioN Gaming

For our first match of the day, we have a rather interesting clash between Splyce and DetonatioN FocusMe. Now, whenever there's a fight between a major region and a wildcard one, it's hard to really get excited. And with good reason. It is rarely a fight on even grounds, and although wildcard regions are far stronger than most people give them credit for, they're still nowhere near as strong as they need to be to actually leave a lasting mark.

This game is no different, basically. It is a match-up between the European third seed -- a team that, by all means, deserves to play in the Worlds' Group Stage -- and the LJL champions. There's a huge gap skill-wise between the two, and it was evident on the first day of competition as well. The Japanese representatives are trying their hardest to actually upset the status quo, but they simply lack the tools which are necessary to be competitive.

That, in short, means that Splyce can pick and choose how they want to approach this one game. They have absolute freedom in every regard. They can win through any of their three lanes, and they shouldn't have too big of a problem in finding an avenue towards success. In other words, the European veteran-filled line-up will have a field day regardless of what they draft. They're aware of this and who knows -- maybe they'll opt for some insanity in the pick and ban phase. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

In the end, we simply have to side with Splyce on this one. It's a no-brainer, basically. There's no reason why we shouldn't give them our full benefit of the doubt. We've seen their strength back over in the LEC, we've seen them play in the Play-In Stage, and we were not left indifferent. While they're by no means perfect in execution, they're still more than capable of getting the job done and improving to a spotless 3-0 record. They have their sights set on bigger things, and DetonatioN FocusMe is just one of the few negligible blocks in the road.
