SK Gaming vs Misfits

For our fourth match of the day, we have an extremely interesting clash between SK Gaming and Misfits Gaming. On paper, this should be an easy win for Misfits, but in reality that couldn't be farther from the case.

Misfits Gaming, for all of their immense strength, were unable to leave a mark throughout the first five weeks of competitive LEC play. They're entering this game on a four-game losing streak. In other words, they were unable to attain a win over the last two weeks, regardless of opponent. And speaking of their opponents, they lost to three top/mid-tier teams, but also Rogue -- the only team in the region that failed to register a win prior to their game against Misfits.

Who would have thought that a roster with sOAZ, Maxlore, Febiven, Hans Sama, and Gorilla would fail to win a game against an 0W-9L Rogue. It wasn't just a loss -- it was a statement game from Rogue, and Misfits look abysmal in all facets of play. It wasn't even competitive, and at this point of the split, that's downright unacceptable. They're currently ranked seventh, but that's only because of their early wins. Their current level of play is absolutely dreadful, and they've shown no signs of improvement. Then again, when you just see who's playing, who's on their five-man roster, you feel like they could turn it around in a split second. They're making ample staff changes coming into this week, so we could see some improvement, but they're still on the back foot, and they're still fighting from behind -- in every way imaginable. There's too big of a gap for them to close at this point just to be even remotely competitive.

A fantastic rebound isn't out of question, but it's highly unlikely.

SK Gaming, on the other hand, has been on an absolute tear. They're on a three-game winning streak, and they were able to take down Rogue, Fnatic, and even Team Vitality. It's hard predicting their actual strength right now, but they're obviously far stronger than people give them credit for. They're very cohesive, capable, and aggressive -- spearheaded by Selfmade and his incredible play. They're highly dangerous regardless of opponent, and they're not going to step away from a challenge.

They're all relatively known players, albeit not universally recognizable. They have a chip on their shoulder, and with a new experienced head coach at the helm, they're looking like a completely new team. They're reinvigorated, they're hungry for the spotlight, and the meta is also favoring them. Crownshot is known for his crit-based AD carry play, and with the recent meta shift, he should be able to shine a lot more than before.

Betting on SK, especially this much, is risky business. The odds are against SK Gaming, and there's not a valid reason as to why that is. They're the stronger team, they have more momentum, they have a neutral win-loss record, and they're actually entering this match with a fair bit of hype. Misfits have the sheer mechanical talent, that's obvious, but they're not putting it to good use. Not even close. Of what use is all of their immense talent, if they don't play like a cohesive five-man unit? They have the star power, but they're not as hungry to win and prove themselves as SK Gaming are.

SK, on the other hand, are the underdogs, and they're embracing their status. They're making the best of their situation, and they're actually making it work. Might seem strange, but they're an incredibly capable mid-tier contender. They're a gatekeeper, but they should be head and shoulders above Misfits right now.
