Rogue vs G2 Esports

For our third game of the day, we have a fairly interesting match-up between G2 Esports and Rogue. Both teams are entering today's match with different amounts of momentum, and varying expectations. Rogue are looking to find their first win after going winless over the last two weeks, whereas G2 Esports are looking to continue dominating — regardless of the opponent.

Rogue was able to keep things somewhat close against Splyce yesterday, but eventually as Splyce's gold lead grew, Rogue didn't have an answer. They're a team filled with various veterans and yet no one is stepping up, no one is leading the charge and making the proactive plays that are necessary in order to eek out any kind of lead. Kikis, in particular, isn't able to get going as much as he did back in 2018 Summer, and that's a problem seeing how he was deemed as their biggest catalyst, and one key win condition. Everyone is just "okay", and in the competitive LEC landscape being "okay" just doesn't cut it. There is some potential within this roster, that's for sure, but if everyone keeps playing like it's solo queue and not top-tier play, then they simply won't be able to get off the ground.

As for G2 Esports, well, they didn't look so hot yesterday. They entered their game against Excel Esports recklessly, and they were flabbergasted at XL's drafting and overall team play. Even though they managed to stay even in gold throughout the game, they were always on the back foot, always making the reactive play rather than being the ones who dictate the tempo. Fortunately, the fact that they have one of the best mid laners in the entire world certainly helped out. Caps' play on Akali was an absolute masterclass. You could argue that his individual level of play helped G2 turn things around and eventually emerge victorious.

It was a sloppy showing overall, but they did pull it off.

Make no mistake, we're tuning in to see the next chapter of G2 Esports' incredible LEC run, and to perhaps see them challenged, even though Rogue doesn't really have the tools in order to go blow-for-blow with the former "kings of Europe". We're tuning in to see the next set of astonishing outplays and mind-blowing displays of skill from Caps. Rogue doesn't really have a chance, but everyone thought the same about Excel Esports, and yet they came close to taking G2 down.

G2's biggest opponent is themselves. They cannot underestimate their opponents, they cannot enter a game with blinding confidence. It's a Best of 1 format and anything can happen, even though G2 is stronger on all fronts. Regardless, you simply cannot bet against G2 Esports at this point in time. They've displayed such immense potential, it's almost unfair to the rest of the LEC.

They're playing at the highest possible level, and they're having a ton of fun in the process. You can see that they're entering every game like a bunch of friends just having fun, and that's rare at this level of play. Depending on how much they slack off, their victory may or may not be clean and dominant. Either way, they should have this one in the bag.
