Origen vs Misfits

For our last match of the day we have an incredibly exciting clash between Misfits Gaming and Origen!

This is arguably the most engaging and fascinating match of the day, and the reasons are aplenty. Misfits are entering this game at an absolute high point. Their week 1 LEC performance was absolutely insane. It was an absolute masterclass from each and every single member, and even though everyone thought that Misfits had a ton of potential, it's still a bit shocking to see them play so well right off the bat.

They held multiple gold lead records throughout 2018 (back when they had that incredible ten-game win streak in Summer), and they actually managed to break their own accomplishments, without breaking a sweat within the very first week of competitive play. They are so incredibly strong, it's actually mind-boggling. They entered 2019 making a statement, and as a team they're stronger on all fronts. The tempo through which they play is virtually unheard of, and they're dictating every minute of the insanity.

Furthermore, they're all so incredibly talented on an individual level (much like G2 Esports) that they can pull anything off with relative ease. They're also more subdued and calculated than G2, and it shows on the Rift as well.

Misfits didn't just win. They put the entire West on notice. And these weren't just simple, clean victories. These were shellackings from start to finish. They put on a clinic in both of their games, and if you looked closely, you could have seen an absolute masterclass in individual play, team cohesion, and mechanical prowess.

In short, it was mesmerizing, and we cannot wait for their next set of games.

Across them, however, is Origen. Now, they're not exactly the strongest of teams right now, but they're stacked with veteran experience and shot calling, and that could allow them to go blow-for-blow with the Misfits roster.

Origen are entering week two with a solid 1W-1L record, and they certainly have a fair bit of momentum after taking Fnatic down last Saturday. But it's hard judging whether they outclassed Fnatic completely, or if Fnatic failed to mount an offensive and thus basically rolled over.

Regardless, Origen are highly capable. They're hungry, they want redemption, and they want to prove their worth as a solid middle-of-the-pack playoff contender. This match-up will give us a better read on just how strong Origen really are. Are they a gatekeeper? Was their win over Fnatic a fluke?

Many questions presented themselves after the first week of LEC play, and we should be getting a lot of answers over the next two days.

No one is expecting Origen to win, that's important to highlight. But they have the potential to put up a solid fight. They're pretty creative in the pick and ban phase (showcased by Nukeduck's mid Vayne counter pick), and they have multiple shotcallers within their line-up. They should be able to make this a somewhat competitive clash.

That said, Misfits have been so incredibly dominant, so clean in their execution, and have displayed such immense mechanical prowess that it's downright impossible not to give them the benefit of the doubt.

We're going with Misfits on this one, but it could be a bit closer than most people expect.
