Origen vs exceL

For our second match of the day, we have a clash between Origen and Excel Esports. Now, by all accounts, this isn't exactly a must-watch game, but it does carry a ton of significance in the grand scheme of things. Excel want to win sooner rather than later in order to retain the hope of reaching the playoffs in their inaugural LEC split, whereas Origen want to continue their winning ways and advance in the standings. It will surely be a closely contested affair, especially considering the fact that both teams are prone to making mistakes in all stages of the game.

Origen, however, are entering this game with a fair amount of hype, and all of it is deserved. Finishing a week with two wins is a great achievement, but getting a win over a top-tier contender is even more impressive. They took down Rogue last Friday which, in and of itself, isn't exactly a seismic achievement. They were stronger on an individual level, and they were better as a five-man unit. Their macro was on point, they rotated whenever they could, and their objective control was fantastic from the very get-go. They were slow, subdued, calculated, and in control. Exactly what you'd expect from a team that's spearheaded by four seasoned veterans and a young talent that's looking to make a name for himself.

But their win against Schalke 04. Oh boy. That was an achievement. It's not that they just won -- they outclassed Schalke. Now, it's hard to realistically judge whether or not they played better than Schalke of if Schalke themselves made egregious error throughout the game. Uncharacteristic errors, one might add. They were able to decimate Schalke from minute one. Schalke was scattered across the map throughout the game. They looked clueless and passive, and Origen was able to perfectly capitalize. They were quick on the map, they read Schalke like a book and managed to capitalize on every error Schalke made. It was an absolute masterclass, and seeing Origen so aggressive and willing to fight was a refreshing sight.

But then again, it's too early to give them to benefit of the doubt regarding the grand scheme of things. They're obviously capable, and they can upset when you least expect them to. But going forward, they have to prove that this win wasn't a fluke but instead a result that came after their hard work and adaptation.

We're going with Origen on this one, and it's not because they're the better team. They know that this game is a must win if they want to continue their winning ways, but it's also important to separate themselves from the bottom of the pack. They not only need every win they can get, but they need to make a statement as well. They could very well be a Top 5 team right now, but until they string a couple of wins they won't be considered a contender. Excel are no slouch, that's for sure, and even though they might not look the part, they can bring the fight to any opponent, which makes this hard to predict. It's not like Origen are a world-class team either, but at least they were able to step up and improve when it mattered -- and against some top-tier opposition as well.

Regardless, their 2-0 week four propelled Origen towards the top, and even though they're still not that threatening, they should be more than able to take down Excel Esports and improve 5W-5L. Watching Origen's development over the last couple of weeks was an absolute joy, and one has to wonder how high they will eventually soar when the dust settles.

They have both Excel Esports and G2 Esports up in week five, and even though they probably won't be able to take down the former "kings of Europe," they should, by all means, beat Excel Esports and solidify their spot as a mid-tier contender that's looking to leave a trace in the Spring Split.

Excel Esports are no slouch, and even in their losses they were able to look good, if not even great. They were ahead over Team Vitality for the first twenty minutes, but they were unable to maintain such a high-tempo against one of the most aggressive teams in the region and as a result quickly lost control of the game.

In the end, it shouldn't be enough to get the win over Origen. They always lack one or two things in order to close out the game, and even though they often have the lead early, they lack the power and experience to transition over the mid game and continue snowballing.
