Misfits vs G2 Esports

For the first match of the brand new Spring Split, we have a repeat of the 2017 Summer Split finals, however there's a serious twist.

This will be the biggest overhaul that G2 eSports underwent since it's LCS start so the team that we will watch will be a very different one from the Kings of Europe that we've accustomed to. Their world class midlaner Perkz is the only one that remains from the original roster and with four new allies besides him, team synergy and cohesion are a big question mark. G2 was always able to be dominant because of their macro, but also from the fact that they have at worst Top 3 players in every position, with the best midlaner and bottom duo without a doubt. With a shotcaller in Mithy, they had everything figured out.

The changes that they've made are solid. They have a consistent bottom lane, an aggressive playmaking jungler in Jankos and a solid, carry oriented top laner in Wunder. Overall they have the tools and the players to contest for a Top 5 spot for sure, but not right away. They will need time, and a lot of it. Synergy and team cohesion are the key elements to a team's success in the Spring Split, and with a complete overhaul this team will need to build from the ground up and essentially re-learn how to play the game as a five man unit.

On the other side we have an exquisite Misfits squad that is - at least in theory - brimming with potential. Misfits had a fantastic showing in Spring with KaKAO, but it wasn't until the very end of Summer that they were able to click and start dominating with Maxlore. When they stepped foot on the Worlds stage they looked unfazed and focused which allowed them to best both TSM and Flash Wolves and advance to the quarterfinals where they took SKT T1 to five games.

Luckily for all Misfits fans, they don't only have one of the most competent coaching staff in all of Europe but some of the best players as well. With the only changes being in the mid and support positions, Misfits shouldn't skip a beat when it comes to team cohesion. While PowerOfEvil left quite a big gap after leaving for North America, Sencux has the potential to fill it and perhaps even bring something new and refreshing for the team. Overall, Misfits really couldn't have made better changes during the chaotic off-season, so we're fully predicting them to occupy the number one of two spot in the rankings.

In the end, the odds are in G2's favor because of their pedigree and not because of their current, realistic strength. This should by all means be a Misfits win and with the odds being so high, this might be a good opportunity to win some money as well!
