MAD Lions vs exceL

For our second match of the day we have a very fascinating clash between two mid-tier contenders, both of whom are looking to string a couple of wins and lock down a spot in the playoffs. That's basically their only goal at this point and, frankly speaking, both of them have a solid shot at pulling it off. That said, MAD Lions certainly have more momentum behind their backs and have generally shown more over the last five weeks of play.

MAD's showing against Team Vitality yesterday was both bad and good. In many ways it was the perfect example on how MAD play the game, for better and worse. Their early game was, once again, heavily flawed. Vitality had the lead early on and was able to dictate the pace of the game. MAD, on the other hand, never quite gave away too much, it certainly wasn't a comfortable position. Still, Humanoid was split-pushing like a madman, the team as a whole remained resilient and fought things out as best they could up until their item and power spikes came around. Once that happened, however, it was an entirely different game. Shadow was once again their most important performer on his already staple Lee Sin. He was constantly able to find Comp out of position and start fights off on the right foot.

As the game progressed, MAD were more proactive, more decisive and commanding regardless of the state of the game. They always went for each and every play without hesitation or reserve and had looked like a far more experienced line-up than one would expect. Their stellar macro and pristine team fighting eventually won them the game, but it wasn't exactly a spotless showing, that's for sure.

It was MAD Lions at their best and worst. Still, they found a way to win, which is the only thing that matters.

Opposite them, we have Excel Esports. Now, Excel are a very solid, well-rounded playoff contender, but they definitely didn't look like it yesterday against Rogue. In fact, they looked like a bunch of scrubs fighting against an LEC caliber team. That's not a good look if you're competing against the team who's just one spot above you in the standings. They were meek, passive, and unimpressive as a whole. Heck, they didn't do anything at all, they were just moving around the map without any apparent game plan or strategy in mind. It was a crushing sight, really. You know they're far more capable and aggressive and yet none of it was on display. As a result, Rogue had a field day from start to finish.

Excel also showed this strange knack for engaging and starting fights they had no business starting. They were a deficit, and a big one, to boot. And yet they were fighting like they were even or perhaps ahead, which made no sense whatsoever.

Overall, this was about as bad of a showing as they could've had, and it came against a team they really had to upset in order to lock down a spot in the playoffs once all is said and done. Still, they should not be underestimated and they definitely have all the right tools to compete with teams above them. They might not be particularly consistent, but they're a solid dark horse in the making.

In the end, we simply have to go with MAD Lions on this one. That's basically the only logical option at this point. Still, Excel Esports are a solid challenge so don't expect yet another one-sided shellacking. They know what they did wrong and have surely improved, at least ever so slightly.
