London Spitfire vs Atlanta Reign

Yet another fascinating match-up between two talented, albeit mighty volatile teams. They're incredibly layered and capable, but their strengths and abilities also fluctuate based on their preparation and... well... a myriad of other factors we've yet to fully grasp and decipher. You can never fully and confidently predict what'll happen once these two line-ups step foot on stage to compete and it's been quite frustrating (to say the least). Their highs are immense but their lows have also been a fairly frequent occurrence as well.

On a good day they can, by all means, compete with the very best teams the Overwatch League has to offer. At their worst, however, they are nothing but middling gatekeepers. This dichotomy of sorts is quite problematic — for reasons that need no explaining. The Reign have thus far been a fair bit more successful, but they've also regressed beyond all measure (without any apparent reason).

The Spitfire, too, have had their ups and downs ever since the Summer Showdown qualifier began. They first dropped to Florida Mayhem (1-3) before outclassing the Boston Uprising just a couple of days later. Their most recent win came at the expense of the Houston Outlaws (3-0), and while it *was* a very dominant showing, one could argue that it panned out in such a way because the Outlaws failed to mount an offensive, not because of London's presumed strength and power. Regardless, a win is a win, so we have to give them *some* credit. We're also done underestimating them — the Spitfire are competing like their lives depend on it, so it should really come as no surprise that they can pull off such momentous upsets and, in doing so, upend the status quo (at least to a certain degree).

The Reign, on the other hand, still haven't bounced back. A 1-3 loss to Boston was tremendously upsetting, and much of the same can be said for their subsequent loss to the Toronto Defiant (1-3). They did get a win on the board against the Paris Eternal (3-0) but that, in short, doesn't really warrant any praise or commendation.

In any case, we'll side with London on this one but it could really go either way. In other words: if you're looking for a "safe" bet, you'd be wise to look elsewhere.
