Immortals vs Team Dignitas

To us, this is nothing but a seemingly unimportant (and rather uninteresting) clash of gatekeepers. To Immortals and Dignitas, however, this is “do or die.” This one game could, potentially, leave a lasting mark, not just on their playoff hopes but on the broader picture as well.

Dignitas are 6-6. Immortals, however, are 4-8. Their records say it all. But they, too, can be deceiving, as Immortals actually have a higher skill ceiling and could, by all means, still end up making the playoffs. Unfortunately, they’ve yet to get on the same page and actually mount some kind of offensive. They’re still not all that good at harnessing their talents (of which there is an abundance of), and other than a few incredible moments their Spring Split run has thus far been quite underwhelming. Heck, we're putting it mildly here. We want to see them do well, not out of any allegiance but because a more competitive LCS would benefit everyone — both top-tier challengers and bottom-feeders alike.

Dignitas have been a lot more consistent, though, and that’s the only thing that matters at this point in time — of what use is some hypothetical talent if it cannot be harnessed when things go down to the wire? Does it even matter if it doesn’t result in anything tangible (like, say, a win)? That’s the question that Immortals are yet to answer, but the outlook sure isn’t bright — that much is clear. With just four wins to their name, they’ll have to win pretty much every single game going forward in order to stand a chance at making Top 6. That’s… a gargantuan task for a team so volatile and flawed.

When they play to their strengths they sure can tango with the very best. But their strengths aren’t always on display, for whatever reason. We’re still confident they’ll end up doing some damage to the status quo come Summer Split, but in the meantime, fans would be wise to lower their expectations as nothing good will come out of their next few games. That’s just the sad reality of it all, but at least there’s hope for the future.

With all of that being said, we’ll still give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. We’re pretty certain that this veteran line-up will step up and deliver now when it matters most. It’s not going to end up mattering given their current position in the standings, but they still put up one heck of a fight and go down “guns blazing.” And, well, as far as consolation prizes go, that’s a pretty good one.
