Immortals vs Golden Guardians

To close out the day, we have a rather fascinating, albeit underwhelming clash between two of the worst (least capable, rather) teams in the region. This might sound like an overly harsh classification, but it's true nonetheless. They've displayed the least amount of potential over their first three outings, and have shown nothing to truly earn our benefit of the doubt.

This is, therefore, a clash of two heavily flawed teams, and the side that makes fewer egregious mistakes will eventually get the win. That's not exactly the premise of a must-watch game, that's for sure. But despite their inconsistent, shaky starts, both teams have what it takes to entertain, at least when they're not up against top-tier opposition. It's hard to say who showed more, as both their losses and wins were arguably equally disappointing. Immortals have their one upset win over Team SoloMid from week one, whereas the Golden Guardians are entering this clash with a bit more momentum after upsetting Evil Geniuses. That one win is worth a lot more seeing how EG struggled far less than Team SoloMid, but it's impossible not to wonder whether the Golden Guardians outplayed their opponents, or if their opponents outplayed themselves, starting from the pick and ban phase.

There's just not much to talk about, or praise, frankly. They're not exactly abysmal, but they're heavily underpowered. Immortals heavily rely on their top side of the map with sOAZ and Xmithie to get going, whereas the Golden Guardians have a slightly stronger three man core of Hauntzer, Closer, and Goldenglue. Perhaps "stronger" isn't the perfect way to describe it, but it's close. Closer, in particular, has been playing exceptionally well over the last three games. The TCL import has already earned quite a fair bit of respect in a very short amount of time, and it's hard not to tune in to see what he'll do next, regardless if the Guardians get the win or not.

There's no clear favorite in this one, and the odds tell the same tale. Both teams stand shoulder to shoulder in terms of strength and potential, and the one that starts off better is bound to emerge victorious. In the end, however, we'll give the nod to the Guardians as they've displayed a bit more cohesion and -- what is perhaps even more important -- the ability to draft thought-out, well-rounded team comps. Their drafts aren't mind-blowing by any stretch of the imagination, but they're miles ahead of what Immortals are doing.
