Immortals vs Golden Guardians
If you had asked a hundred people what they thought about a potential IMT vs. GGS match-up prior to the 2022 Spring Split, you would've gotten a hundred shrugs, all signaling absolute and utter indifference. These two organizations are some of the biggest gatekeepers in the LCS, and they haven't been relevant in what feels like forever.
That, however, has seemingly changed, and it has changed for the better. They are now some of the most capable (albeit still flawed) teams in North America. GGS put everyone on notice by taking down Team Liquid (and in quite commanding fashion, no less), whereas Immortals are now on a three-game win streak and have looked nigh incredible in all three of their most recent games.
Their .500 record is also mighty respectable. It's not spectacular by any means but given just how dreadful IMT have been just a few weeks prior to this point, one simply has to put a bit of respect on their name. They've been hard at work and their effort is already paying dividends. Could Immortals qualify for the playoffs? They very well could, assuming they can keep this up!
All in all, the boys in green finally have a clear identity and are bearing the fruits of their labor. The fact that they struggled so mightily only makes their sudden turnaround that much more impressive and praise-worthy. We think they're better than GGS. Maybe not by a lot, but they have more veterans and a ton more experience. That doesn't, of course, mean they'll be able to get the win, but they've nonetheless been very commanding in their triumphs and have very clear strengths and win conditions -- win conditions that have yet to fail them.
We'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. They're perhaps not as flexible as GGS in the way they draft, but they've been a bit more consistent and have excelled at the few strats and team comps which they *do* play. Hopefully that's enough to net the the win.
