Immortals vs FlyQuest

FlyQuest will find themselves in quite a weird position: they’ll be playing not one but two games in a row. Depending on how you look at it, that’s either a very positive thing (more stage time and they get to, potentially, keep their momentum) or a very negative one. This shouldn’t be compared to a standard Best of 5 as there’s no real similarity — FlyQuest will have to face two vastly different opponents one after another.

That’s a very complicated thing to prepare for and it still remains to be seen whether FlyQuest will be able to meet the challenge. The biggest problem is that they’re going to face Evil Geniuses first which, quite frankly, is almost surely going to be a loss. If it ends up being a lopsided one, that’ll only further affect their morale which could, in theory, allow Immortals to turn the tides and get away with the win. If, however, FlyQuest end up beating EG, they would almost surely be able to harness that momentum and steamroll through IMT with ease.

So it’s a bit of a risk, one that may or may not pan out; there are simply too many variables lingering in the air, and it still remains to be seen how everything will pan out.

To make things even *more* complicated, they’re going up against Immortals, a team that is so darn hard to read. Are they good? Bad? Something in between? It pretty much depends on the day and whom they’re up against; we’ve seen many different shades of Immortals thus far and it’s fair to say that there’s no predicting which “version” will come out on stage and compete.

When they’re “on”, they’re obviously good enough to compete with the who’s who of the LCS. When that isn’t the case, however, they’re pretty much as good as TSM and CLG — i.e. they’re not good at all. Granted, they’ve grown tremendously over the last few weeks but they’re still mighty inconsistent and can, at times, make the most egregious mistakes and, in doing so, give up any kind of lead they mighyt have accrued up to that point.

In any case, they’re currently on a tear and have made everyone take notice. This is not the same Immortals as the one was in Lock-In — they’re finally playing as well as we expected them to, and are quite a formidable opponent (to say the least). They can still struggle from time to time, but we’ve seen their highs and they were pretty darn incredible.

Much of the same goes for FlyQuest as well — most of their players have been wrecking house and while we don’t think they’re really as good as they seem, they’re nonetheless good *enough* to trade blows with Immortals and turn this into a brawl. Are they the better team, though? That, unfortunately, is a question we simply cannot answer at this point. They’ve definitely been more impressive thus far, but that means very little overall — they’ve also had the easier strength of schedule, and that’s something worth keeping in mind.

We’ll go with Immortals on this one, even though it’s the riskier option. They’ve reached a very impressive point performance-wise, and if they don’t implode out of the blue (as has happened in the recent past), they’ll probably be able to get the win.
