Golden Guardians vs Evil Geniuses

Yet another potential "landmine." How in the world did the Golden Guardians take down Team Liquid? We're talking about the very best team in the LCS right now, and yet they were powerless against GGS. It wasn't as lopsided as that last sentence would lead you to believe, it the truth isn't far off either.

A lot of credit needs to go towards GGS. They've been wrecking house and it's been an absolute joy to watch. They're the underdogs, which is a role so synonymous with the organization. They're reveling in such a status, to be able to surprise and upset, to challenge the best teams around when everyone least expects it. They've been far more successful than most folks thought they'd be, and we're sort observing from a distance, wondering why anyone ever doubted them. This is a phenomenal team, one with many capable veterans and a few young players who've yet to peak. That's a great formula for success, and it's already "paying dividends."

But Evil Geniuses are cut from a different cloth. They haven't been all that impressive lately, but their win over FlyQuest -- a most dominant showing, no less -- *has* imbued us with a lot of faith and confidence in them pulling off a rebound. We're still not certain if they'll be able to take down the Golden Guardians, but pound-for-pound they *are* the far superior team. It's not even *remotely* close, in all fairness, but we've seen many upsets lately in the LCS, and it's been less about sheer potential and more about teamplay and execution. That's where EG have fumbled, but they've stepped up quite a bit and should definitely be able to handle a motivated Golden Guardians.

We're going to be honest here: we have no idea how this one's going to pan out. Both scenarios are on the table, and one cannot blindly side with one team over the other. As already mentioned, mechanics and talent mean so little at this point in time if there's not enough cohesion. Fortunately, EG *have* improved, and when they're playing their best LoL there's only a handful of teams that can match them -- and GGS almost surely isn't one of them.

That said, if Ablazeolive has another pop-off performance -- and the rest of the team delivers as well -- we might be in for yet another upset here. It'll be a fun one, that's for sure.
