G2 Esports vs Misfits

For our final match of the day, we have an incredibly exciting clash between G2 Esports and Misfits Gaming. Even though Misfits fell down to earth a bit over the last couple of weeks, they're still as an incredibly capable opponent -- and then some.

This is, without a doubt, the match of the week. And while there isn't any overarching narrative, any hyped-up story around it, it's still as good as it gets. You don't really need a storyline in order to get hyped for this one -- there's so much skill and experience on both sides, that fireworks are almost guaranteed.

G2, however, are entering the game with more momentum, and that might even be an understatement. What can one even say about G2 Esports at this point? It feels like we've used every single adjective that was available. Dominant, cohesive, unrelenting, monumental, incredible -- you name it. They're that strong, and even though they're not perfect, they mostly make mistakes on their own accord.

They want to have fun. They know that they have talent and skill in spades, so why not enjoy the ride? They're at the top of the region, they have what some would call the best job in the world, and they're not even remotely close to losing it. Why not enjoy this whole process, this whole privilege?

Because of that approach, they might not always start off on the right foot. But when they lack oomph in the early game, even when they seem vulnerable and human, they always manage to find a way and turn things around. Always.

Now we could talk about their incredibly dominant mid game against Team Vitality last week, or their team fighting prowess, but that's be pointless.

We could also talk about their game against Fnatic, also known as the fastest game in LEC and EU LCS history. That's six years of competitive play, and they demolished, outclassed a stellar Fnatic line-up in a matter of minutes. Twenty, to be more exact.

They didn't even break a sweat, it looked like they were just warming up. How did they pull off such a feat? Simple -- they did everything right, and they made almost zero mistakes. They're unrelenting, unbearable with a lead. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. They're that good, they're that aggressive and with tons of skill to back it up, they rarely fail.

It feels strange a bit, but four weeks of competitive Spring Split play are already behind us, and yet G2 don't show any signs of stopping. In fact, the opposite. They're only getting better and better, like fine wine. What's the ceiling for this roster? Is there even a limit? No one is really looking at regional play any longer, and with good reason. Even if they do lose a game or two in the coming weeks, people are already wondering how G2 will do on the international stage.

Will they be able to go blow-for-blow with the likes of Griffin, or the LPL champions? Only time will tell. For now, we get to watch them dominate and play every single weekend. It's a good time to be an LEC fan, that's for sure. Or a fan of top-tier League of Legends, for that matter.

Misfits, on the other hand, didn't do so well last week. In fact, they lost both of their games, and that's a worrying sign. Sure, they lost to Schalke 04 and Splyce, two teams that are very similar in strength and potential, but still.

For a team with so much built-in talent, not getting at least a single win at this point is a bad sign. It feels as though they're one-dimesional, and in a landscape this competitive, that's quite a problem.

Still, even in their weakened form, they're a highly formidable foe. That said, their play lacks ferocity. For every good move they make on the Rift, there's always another, or perhaps even two bad ones. G2 don't need much in order to capitalize. In fact, they only need the smallest of openings. Give them one, and the game is as good as lost.

Make no mistake, Misfits have the tools at their disposal in order to make this into one heck of a game. They have the early game prowess, the late game team fighting, as well as the individual talent in order to go blow-for-blow with G2 Esports. They aren't, however, nearly as consistent nor mentally resilient as their adversaries, and that should be the determining factor come Friday. While it probably won't be as one-sided as some expect, G2 Esports should, by all means, be able to emerge victorious. They're simply too strong, too cohesive, and too capable in order to lose at this point.

We're going with G2 Esports on this one. How could we not?
