G2 Esports vs MAD Lions

What a fascinating way to start the season off: a clash between the defending champions G2 and a squad that's brimming with up-and-coming talent. Now, generally speaking, this isn't a marquee match-up by any stretch of the imagination, but it'll give us a solid enough read into both teams.

On the one hand we have G2 Esports, the best and most stacked roster Europe ever assembled. There's a reason to tune in any time they step foot on stage and today should be no different. They are, however, entering this match with a noticeable change in their roster: Caps and Perkz have decided to swap roles. Now, if you're confused, know that you're not the only one. Why they would go for such a mind-boggling rotation still remains a mystery. Both players gave their own accounts on the matter, but neither of them made much sense. Overall though, there's no solid reason why they shouldn't swap and test things out. After all, they're the best team in Europe bar none -- might as well have some fun and see where it leads them.

We mustn't forget that Perkz's transition to the bottom lane allowed Caps to come over from Fnatic and turn G2 Esports into a bona fide titan of competitive League. Their flexibility (and unhinged approach to the game) is one of their biggest assets, so there's no reason why they should stop doing what comes naturally -- especially after all that they've accomplished last year.

At worst, they'll drop a couple of games and then rotate back. At best, they'll discover yet another shade of G2, one that is perhaps even more dangerous. To G2, this kind of thing is second nature. With two of the best and most accomplished Western mid laners in history within their ranks, G2 is bound to once again dominate over their opposition.

And we get to see the grand reveal in a matter of hours. Now that's exciting, regardless of your allegiance.

Opposite them, we have MAD Lions. Now, depending on who you ask, this is either a spectacular challenger in the making, or a solid, well-rounded playoff team. Either way, they have more than enough talent within their ranks to warrant the trust. To those who haven't been watching the "little league", these names don't mean much, if anything at all. And yet these individuals are already accomplished, seasoned players. They haven't competed on the LEC stage but they're more than talented enough get the nod and compete against the best players Europe has to offer.

How well they'll do is anyone's guess at this point. We still haven't seen them in action, and they'll have an insanely tough test ahead of them to start the season. No one's expecting them to beat G2 Esports, that's for sure, but they might even stand a chance if the defending champs decide to troll -- as they're known to do every so often.

Regardless of the final outcome, expect both teams to start the game off swinging.
