Fnatic vs G2 Esports

For our last match of the day, we have a clash between the current champions -- Fnatic, and the former "kings of Europe" -- G2 Esports. Even though Fnatic hasn't been playing that well, or well at all rather, they're still a highly formidable adversary. They bring a certain aura with them, and there's always the overarching narrative between them and G2

That said, this should pretty much be an incredibly one-sided game. Upsets can happen, especially in the hyper competitive LEC environment, but after witnessing G2 Esports' level of play throughout the last couple of weeks, they're the team to beat, and there doesn't seem to be anyone who will be able to do so.

There's just no way around it -- they're one of the best and most frightening European teams in history. The sheer amount of talent, resilience and mental fortitude within this veteran five-man roster is mind-blowing, and they're able to play any kind of team comp, any strategy, against any opponent to absolute perfection. They're not flawless, that's for sure, but their biggest flaws come from their own mentality and approach to the game -- they want to have fun. It's hard to blame them, especially seeing how they can run circles around the opposition, but that kind of approach could eventually become their downfall.

But that hypothetical situation is not even close to becoming a reality right now. Their game yesterday against Team Vitality was an absolute shellacking, and a masterclass in execution. It was as if they were playing a completely different game when opposed to Vitality who were struggling to keep up with the hectic pace imposed by the former EU LCS champions.

Watching their games is definitely the one thing you have to do each week if you're a fan of competitive high-level League of Legends.

Fnatic, on the other hand, were able to secure their second LEC win yesterday with a win over Excel Esports. It was an important victory in the grand scheme of things, seeing how they were able to differentiate themselves from the bottom pack of the region. How strong are they right now? Impossible to know.

They did, however, improve in various facets of play. We saw some old-school Fnatic stuff yesterday, with Hylissang roaming towards the mid lane and engaging along with Broxah, and in short, it was an exceptionally clean (almost uninteresting) game from start to finish. Fnatic wanted to win in dominant fashion, and they completely outclassed Excel from a macro standpoint. It wasn't engaging, but they got the job done, and improved to a somewhat underwhelming 2W-5L. They want redemption, they want to reach the playoffs and make sure that they can compete at the highest possible level for the second year in a row.

The road towards the top will be a long one, but they have the tools at their disposal in order to make it a reality. Unfortunately, they don't have the strength in order to compete with G2 Esports right now. They're outclassed individually, as well as a five-man unit. They could make this a competitive game but they should, by all means, lose against such a ferocious G2 Esports.

There's just no betting against G2 Esports at this point. Betting against them would be betting against good reason and logic, and it wouldn't end well.
