FlyQuest vs Cloud9

The repeat of the 2020 Spring Split finals is, without a doubt, an insanely exciting clash, although it's also a match-up that is completely up in the air right now. Cloud9 are entering this fight after losing two games in a row, whereas FlyQuest -- although victorious after outclassing Team SoloMid yesterday -- have struggled mightily over the last two weeks. We have the defending, reigning champions who've lost a bit of their touch, and a struggling challenger that seems to be on the rise yet again.

Still, if we think about this match-up solely through a historical lens, it's fair to say that Cloud9 has the edge in every conceivable fashion. That, however, might not mean all that much in the grand scheme of things, now that both are seemingly equal in regards to performance and in-game prowess. No one's quite sure whether C9 is weaker at this point in time, or if they were just caught off guard by a micro meta shift and were outdrafted by the likes of 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses. We need a bigger sample size, and their upcoming game against FlyQuest will be incredibly important -- it'll give us more information regarding whether they're just slumping for the time being or if this is a cause for real concern.

FlyQuest, on the other hand, looked spectacular with WildTurtle back in the line-up, and they disposed of TSM in extremely one-sided fashion. It wasn't even a close game, really, as FlyQuest created an insurmountable lead right from the very get-go and never relinquished control. It wasn't a perfect showing, but with everyone performing up to expectations, FlyQuest once again looked like a top-tier challenger worthy of respect and admiration.

Then again, TSM did implode with that botched level 1 invade, and they could never quite mount a comeback. Spica was a complete non-factor, and they were just holding on for dear life as long as they could. The lead FlyQuest had, however, proved to be too big for TSM to handle.

Overall, this is an endlessly fascinating match-up that's also incredibly important for the region as a whole. Cloud9 want redemption, but whether they'll find it against a game FlyQuest still remains to be seen. Regardless, they're still the defending champions, and two losses shouldn't discredit their immense talent and long-term potential. They have all the tools to get the win tonight, but it's going to be an uphill battle, especially if they don't step up draft-wise. FlyQuest will fight for every inch of the Summoner's Rift, which means this should, in theory, be an insanely competitive affair from start to finish.

But as with any LCS match these days, proceed with caution as there are no safe or easy bets this time around.
