FlyQuest vs 100 Thieves

Whether you find this match-up interesting or not heavily depends on your allegiance. Are you a fan of 100 Thieves? Then it’s an absolute must-watch. Otherwise, though, there’s not a whole lot to write home about. And we’re really putting it mildly here.

Regardless both teams have a lot to fight for. FlyQuest are officially out of the running for playoffs but they still want to leave a good impression and grow as much as possible during the tail end of the regular season. Each and every single game can be a fertile ground for experimentation and, by proxy, growth. That’s what FlyQuest want most at this point in time. They haven’t been performing all that great throughout the last couple of months but they’re a talented bunch nonetheless — we know for a fact that they’re capable of bigger and better things. And now they’ll have a couple of weeks to recuperate, go back to the drawing board, and potentially enter the upcoming Summer Split in style. It’s definitely within the realm of possibility, although they aren’t favored to leave much of a mark in the grand scheme of things.

Plus, in all fairness, it’s not like they’re a bottom-tier team right now. They might not be a competitive behemoth, but they can definitely pack a punch, given that they draft to their strengths and execute to the best of their ability. They’ll also start with former Schalke 04 support Dreams instead of Diamond which should, in theory, result in a much more potent bottom half of the map.

100 Thieves, on the other hand, are still hard (if not impossible) to read. It seems like they’re on the up-and-up with a two-game win streak, but these wins came at the expense of mid-tier gatekeepers and bottom-tier dwellers, so it’s not like they’re getting challenged a whole lot. Still, a win is a win, and 100 Thieves definitely needed a couple after that dreadful mid-split dip in performance. Are they currently as good as they were back in the LCS Lock-In? Absolutely not. Heck, they’re not even close, but at least they’re getting there one day at a time. The only question now is: will they make it in time for the playoffs? The odds are certainly stacked against them, but they have all the right tools for the job so if they ultimately end up failing they won’t have anyone else to blame other than themselves and their seemingly inefficient (or flat-out incapable) coaching staff.

There are no excuses whatsoever at this point. They have some of the best players in the region and should by no means be this sloppy and out of sync — especially not given how three of these five players already had a ton of pre-existing synergy from their Golden Guardians days. Most of us expected a lot more from 100 Thieves coming into 2021, and the fact that they won’t be able to leave much of a mark is definitely dispiriting. But at least they still have a chance of correcting course, no matter how small or insignificant a chance it might be. They’re not playing their best League of Legends right now. Of this we are all aware. But they should still be able to take FlyQuest down — a team that is undeniably weaker across the board. Still, even if they do win, it almost certanly won’t be clean or commanding, so expect an absolute brawl that’ll be determined by the slimmest of margins, especially if FlyQuest double down on their strengths and give Licorice a bit of agency in the draft.
