FC Schalke 04 vs G2 Esports

For our third match of the day, we have a strange one -- G2 Esports vs Schalke 04. Now, on the one hand, this is as one-sided a clash as you can imagine. On the other, G2 Esports were just handed their first 2020 loss by none other than Misfits Gaming. And it wasn't a competitive affair either -- they were outclassed and demolished by a team many considered as the worst in the region coming into the split.

Truly the dankest of timelines.

Who could've expected that Caps -- arguably the most talented Western mid laner in history -- would set a record by dying seven times in the first fifteen minutes? Against Bvoy and Denyk, of all people. G2 Esports simply had one of their well-known throws and it was truly a spectacular sight. There comes a time when they simply don't care, and yesterday was a good example. They had an abysmal draft, they underestimated what Misfits could do, and they played some abysmal League of Legends on an individual level as well -- not to mention Wunder's Sona.

This, of course, wasn't indicative of their strength or potential, but rather that they imploded at the strangest of moments. They tried their hardest to claw back into the game, but bad positioning and egregious engages hindered their chances of mounting a comeback.

Schalke 04, on the other hand, didn't look much better, although they certainly did improve after starting with Innaxe. He is by no means a powerhouse, but they had a noticeably stronger early game and actually made things somewhat competitive against Rogue.

The fact that they'll now fight against G2 Esports is rather unfortunate as it means they're bound to fall even further with a 0W-8L record.

No one's ever quite sure when G2 Esports will decide to troll and experiment. There's simply no rhyme or reason behind their decision-making. They did, however, look abysmal yesterday and they know it. They were embarrassed, frankly, which should, in turn, make them angry and motivated. They don't have the slightest problem with losing, but the fashion in which they lost surely lit a fire beneath them.

Everyone's expecting an aggressive G2 Esports; a titan that's looking for redemption after fumbling beyond belief against the unlikeliest of challengers. Schalke might have improved a bit, but they're simply nowhere near as well-rounded or mechanically sound to actually challenge the defending champions.
