Evil Geniuses vs 100 Thieves

One of the two final matches to close out the week -- a fight between Evil Geniuses and 100 Thieves. Now, on paper, there's more than enough reason to tune in. After all, these two teams have all the right tools at their disposal to eventually reach the playoffs and, perhaps, leave a mark in the grand scheme of things. That said, they didn't look particularly good in their openings matches. On the one hand, they're still syncing up. On the other, we didn't see much potential on the Summoner's Rift. They weren't bad per se, but their play left quite a lot to be desired.

100 Thieves had a fairly meek challenge to open up the season: Golden Guardians. They struggled to eke out an advantage against whom many deem as the worst challenger in the region. It was a back-and-forth affair that ultimately went in 100T's favor, but it was by no means one-sided or a spectacular display of skill. To their credit, the Golden Guardians fought back to the best of their ability, which, no doubt, took 100 Thieves by surprise. Just because they were deemed as a bottom-tier dweller didn't mean that they were going down without a fight. Heck, they even had a lead throughout the majority of the game. 100 Thieves won, but it certainly didn't instill anyone with confidence.

Opposite them, we have Evil Geniuses. Now, coming into the Spring Split, EG had as much hype as humanly possible. That was expected, of course, considering the many high-caliber acquisitions the organization made during the off-season. But Evil Geniuses didn't look good in their first 2020 LCS outing. Heck, maybe that's even an understatement. They were solid individually, but only in the early game. When they had to rely on their own individual prowess and talent, they were pretty solid, but the moment they needed to transition into the mid and late game and actually compete as a five-man unit, they imploded in rather disappointing fashion. They were out of sync, and while they were definitely aggressive (a plus this early on), they were never on the same page. But being out of sync this early into the season is acceptable, especially for such a new team. The fact that they played such mediocre League of Legends, however, is far less forgivable.

There wasn't much that can be said overall as they were pretty much annihilated by Team Dignitas in rather one-sided fashion. They tried their hardest, that's for sure, but it was't enough as they were outmatched and outplayed with relative ease.

Because of this, predicting the outcome of this one match is incredibly hard. 100 Thieves certainly looked better (they did more, basically), but they had a much easier opponent. Dignitas is, at the moment, definitely a force to be reckoned with, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. Be that as it may, we're siding with Evil Geniuses on this one but not with full confidence. They knew which makes were made yesterday and have surely worked tirelessly to prepare for this second outing. Their fumbles were by no means monumental and they should, by all means, look like a completely different team this time around. That said, if you're looking for a safe bet, best look elsewhere. 100 Thieves are far from a pushover and they're not going to lose without one heck of a fight.
