CLG vs Team SoloMid

Next up, we have the age-old North American el clasico: Team SoloMid vs. Counter Logic Gaming. Now, frankly speaking, "age-old" is the key word here as CLG hasn't been good or even remotely competitive ever since 2016 back when they last won the LCS and managed to trade heavy blows with SKT T1 at the Mid-Season Invitational.

Everything that came afterwards was absolute, resounding mediocrity in every way, shape, and form. Some of the blame falls upon the org itself, whereas an equally large chunk falls upon the coaching staff and the many strange signings which they had made over the years. CLG is still a strong brand that is entrenched in LCS history, but they've been a bottom-tier dweller for many years and have shown very few signs of life. Their 2020 hasn't been much different. In fact, one could argue that it's been a continuation of that same old trend. The inclusion of Pobelter certainly gave them a puncher's chance (in no small part because of his in-game leadership and mechanical talent), but he alone can only do so much on a team that has an underperforming top laner, a non-existent jungler, and an out of sync (and past its prime) bottom lane duo. That's about as underwhelming a team as you can get. They've obviously won a couple of games and they're a fiesty bunch, but whenever push comes to shove, they fumble in one way or another. They're just not that good in any way, shape, or form and are bound to end up outside of the playoff top six.

Team SoloMid, on the other hand, is impossible to read right now. They've had amazing games and abysmal ones as well, and you never really know which shade of TSM will come out on stage to compete. Sometimes they draft like a bunch of solo queue scrubs; other times they just dominate beyond measure through incredible teamplay and mind-blowing individual prowess. But they're always a question mark. If anything, they've looked noticeably better ever since they subbed in Treatz from their Academy team, and the Bjergsen & Doublelift duo is still as potent as it was back in 2016/2017. They're a flawed team, that's for sure, but even on a bad day they're a playoff contender. They're still gelling as a five-man unit and we can see their growing pains more often than not. Still, they're miles better than CLG and if they draft towards their strengths and double down on their most potent win conditions, they shouldn't have too much trouble in taking CLG down.

Still, there's no safe bet in the LCS right now as everyone's upsetting everyone it feels like, so proceed with caution.
