100 Thieves vs Team Dignitas

Finally, to close out the first week of the 2021 LCS Spring Split, we have a rather uneventful match-up between 100 Thieves and Dignitas. As already stated, this is quite a noticeable mismatch in terms of skill, talent, and overall potential. On the one side we have 100 Thieves — arguably a Top 3 challenger at the moment and one of the best-performing teams in the entirety of the LCS. On the other, we have Dignitas — a team that is about as bad and underwhelming as everyone expected.

So, not exactly the recipe for a barnburner.

Regardless, both teams love to skirmish, and they're prone to making unforced errors and that, in short, could give birth to a fairly entertaining, skirmish-heavy clash. "Could" being the operative word here. The thing is, the first two days of the regular season made one thing perfectly clear: bottom-tier teams are performing much better than anyone anticipated. They're still limited in terms of potential and overall strength, but they're fighting their hearts out nonetheless. Still, it's the very start of the season, and very few teams are actually consistent enough to warrant our benefit of the doubt. Heck, Team Liquid lost to Immortals -- that alone means anything can happen at this point in time. 100 Thieves, much like TL, have moments of weakness, and they definitely looked vulnerable over the last two days. The only question now is: will Dignitas be able to exploit and capitalize whenever an opportunity presents itself? We're inclined to answer with a very concrete "no" on that one, but they'll still try nonetheless. Speaking of Dignitas, they didn't look all that good in their first few outings. In fact, they looked pretty darn bad, regardless of whom they were up against. There were a couple of good moments here and there, but they were too few in number to actually amount to anything meaningful. Now, we know they're better than they've shown, but they're just not good enough to compete with a team of 100 Thieves' caliber. They're underwhelming across the board (and in nearly every regard), and barring any huge, unforeseen twist (a la Immortals vs. Team Liquid), they simply shouldn't be able to do much.

100 Thieves have earned our benefit of the doubt, and even though they've been struggling a bit lately, they're still head and shoulders above Dignitas in every which way. It's a mismatch in every sense of the word, which is why we're going to side with 100 Thieves on this one. It's truly the only logical option. Their win is all but guaranteed, and even if they don't draft to their strengths or start off on the right foot, they should still be able to emerge victorious — regardless of what Dignitas might bring to the table.
