Team Liquid vs Cloud9

ESL Pro League Season 8 North America ,

North America is back on the table again with the match-up between the two heaviest hitters in the USA; Team Liquid is playing against Cloud9 in this showdown of the American superteams.

Team Liquid :

Team Liquid has been looking incredibly strong in ESL Pro League so far, leading the pack with the record of ten wins to only four losses. Although one of these losses was in fact to Cloud9, the game went the full distance and was lost 14-16 on Cache. Cache is one of Team Liquid's stronger maps so that is something to consider when Cloud9 could beat them, even if it was just marginal. I digress, Team Liquid is well put together and shows strong attributes for tactical gameplay and individual statistics. Twistzz and NAF are continuing to be a huge hitter for Team Liquid, Twitzz boasting a 1.26 rating in the last 3 months and NAF with a 1.15 rating in the same span of time.

Team Liquid's map pool looks like this; Inferno is 13-3, Cache is 13-2, Mirage is 7-4, Dust 2 is 3-4, Nuke is 2-4, Overpass is 3-1 and Train is the permaban.

Cloud9 :

With the announcement of primary AWPer Skadoodle stepping down from competitive CSGO, Cloud9 are looking to find a new fifth member. As if it wasn't enough that Stewie2k and Tarik had to be replaced, but now a third member joins them. The core of the team remaining is that of RUSH and Automatic, however, the unity of the team has been struggling since the acquisition of European help in the form of former Fnatic members Golden and Flusha. I'm not sure how long Skadoodle will continue to play with Cloud9 at this time.

Cloud9's map pool looks like this; Inferno is 9-9, Mirage is 7-5, Overpass is 2-7, Cache is 3-4 Train is 0-2, Dust 2 is 0-1 and Nuke is the permaban.

Map Pick/Ban :

This is a best of one series, and because of the online format, the map will be chosen randomly. The map has yet to be chosen as of now, but it's safe to say that in all instances except for train, Team Liquid has the map advantage. Even so with the Train being a permaban for Team Liquid, Cloud9 isn't finding much success on the map despite it being in their map pool.

Final Thoughts:

Team Liquid is in context the polar opposite of Cloud9 right now. Team Liquid is fundamentally sound, players performing well, tactically comfortable, and unified as a team. Cloud9 is having problems in all of these areas and because of this, I find the thought of Cloud9 winning either of the games against Team Liquid today as a long shot. It's going to take some time before Cloud9 are back where they were when they won the Major and I personally am not sure if they will ever get back to that height. Team Liquid has the potential to be the best or at least compete with Astralis. With this being said, a medium bet on Team Liquid is what I recommend.
