New York Excelsior vs Florida Mayhem

For our second match of the day we have a somewhat interesting matchup between the New York Excelsior and the Florida Mayhem.

For New York, there really isn't much to be said. They're incredibly dominant, they have some of the best players in the world and they've shown synergy and a level of mechanical prowess that only London could match. Going into Stage 2, they're looking to continue their dominant run and perhaps even get revenge over the Spitfire for handing them the one loss that mattered the most - in the finals of Stage 1. Their path continues tonight, against the 11th ranked Florida Mayhem. It will be incredibly fun seeing how this team adapts to the new set of maps and a different meta. If anything they should by all means prosper, especially seeing how whenever Jjonak headshots an enemy DPS as Zenyatta there won't be a resurrect on the other side to counter.

Speaking of Florida, they're entering Stage 2 somewhat reinvigorated. They were able to take Philadelphia Fusion to five maps in the very last game of the first stage. They were improving quite a bit as the first stage came to an end, however it was never enough to get them a second win on the board. The Shanghai Dragons remain the only team that they've managed to beat and even going into Stage 2 it's questionable whether or not they would be able to repeat that achievement seeing how good Diya and Undead looked yesterday against Dallas Fuel.

Luckily for Florida, this is perhaps the only time when they will be able to tango with New York Excelsior - at least for a bit. The playing field is somewhat leveled with the new set of maps and a different meta, however even with those changes it's tough seeing Florida taking down New York - regardless of the context. The Excelsior are simply on another level and Florida for sure isn't a team that is going to challenge the status quo.

However don't be surprised if the Mayhem come out of the gates swinging. They're quite frankly the second worst team in the Overwatch League and yet they never allowed that to hinder their spirit and their preparation - and that is exactly what will allow them to further develop and improve. Looking further down the road they might be able to challenge teams like San Francisco Shock or the Los Angeles Gladiators - just not right now.

Betting on New York Excelsior would be the better and more logical choice.
