StarSeries i-League Season 5,

Staring the Monday following this coming weekend, Mousesports and North will face off in a best of three series in the first round of the StarSeries i-League Season 5. The StarSeries season 4 took place earlier this year and Mousesports took that event over the rising Natus Vincere. It is safe to say that Mousesports is the favorite team heading into this specific match up, but we will dissect each team and see if that is the case after all. Let's get started.

Mousesports:

As stated above, Mousesports is the defending event champions taking the win two maps to one over Natus Vincere. However, since that time, Mousesports has also won the V4 Future Sports Festival and placed 3rd at IEM Sydney 2018. Mousesports is stabilizing themselves as a top-five team in the world and is currently ranked fourth. In a tweet by Rifler and back-up AWPer 'ChrisJ' Mousesports will continue to fight to retain a top three spot in the world. At the pace they are going, it would be a shame if they did not reach this feat by the end of this event.

Mousesports's map pool looks like this; Mirage is 18-5, Inferno is 11-6, Train is 7-7, Nuke is 6-2, Overpass is 3-4, Cache is 3-2, and Dust 2 is 1-2

North :

North has been tossed back and forth in the Counter-Strike scene for the past month or so now. With the addition of Kjaerbye the team has grown some, but the overall look of the team isn't promising. Currently globally ranked in the number thirteen spot, North has struggled against top ten teams in the past but most recently won an offline match against globally ranked number 10 Gambit, and claimed first place at the Dreamhack Open Tours 2018 in France after defeating Hellraisers the following game. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but this event will truly test the new North.

North's map pool looks like this; Inferno is 8-11, Mirage is 7-6, Overpass is 8-5, Train is 4-4, Nuke is 4-3, Dust 2 is 3-0, and Cache is 0-2

Map Pick/Ban :

This is a best of three series and so each team will pick one map, ban two maps, and the leftover map will the decider if the game goes to three maps. Mousesports will start with a ban of Inferno and Overpass. North will strike back with bans of Mirage and Cache. The three maps played will be Train, Dust 2 and Nuke.

Final Thoughts:

Going into this match-up we can see a lot of different elements involved in the games to be played. Mousesports have a better win record and play better teams, while North is still growing and can be unpredictable, especially on the maps that will be played. I can see North claiming one map, but in a best of three series, I cannot for the life of me see a point where North would win two maps against the defending StarSeries champions and top five teams in the world Mousesports. I recommend a medium bet on Mousesports.
