Invictus Gaming vs Reality Rift

The first match of group C is, believe it or not, a fairly interesting one, regardless of how it might look at first glance. We don’t know what to expect from either of these two challengers, which makes it all the more interesting.

Reality RIft is entering this tournament with a fair bit of hype after securing first place in the Southeast Asian qualifier. Being above both TNC Predator and Fnatic is a pretty decent accomplishment, all things considered. Especially when you factor in TNC’s recent dominant streak and MDL Chengdu triumph.

They’re a fairly new squad and the Leipzig Major is their first DPC tournament, which doesn’t exactly instil us with confidence. Then again, a 2-0 over TNC Predator is enough to make us wonder if they just had a lucky week or if they’re serious threat in Leipzig.

By the same token, Invictus Gaming might have to roll up their sleeves for this one. It’s been a long time since they were considered as a bona fide threat. In any case, they’re hard to read and even though they improved quite a bit after the Outlanders update, they’re still somewhat of a dark horse. Their first place finish is in the qualifier definitely warrants our benefit of the doubt, but we’re still airing on the side of caution.

Invictus did, however, finish second at the World Electronic Sports Games 2019 China Finals (that was a mouthful), behind only PSG.LGD, so they're definitely capable of going blow-for-blow. Their drafts were versatile and they were aggressive at all times, always knowing when to strike and when to slow down. They played like a well-oiled machine and didn’t drop a single game coming into the finals. Even though they ultimately lost, there was a lot to gain (or learn, rather) from competing on the latest patch.

Reality Rift are trying to set the stage for a solid run and make the world take notice, whereas Invictus Gaming want to start off on the right foot and solidify their spot as a dangerous contender in the 7.23 meta.

Predicting the outcome of this match is downright impossible given their most recent results. They also never played against each other, so we don’t know how they stack up stylistically either. Fireworks, however, are basically guaranteed.

In the end, we simply have to side with Invictus as they’ve already proven to be a worthy (albeit flawed) contender. Reality Rift, on the other hand, still need to prove their worth on the biggest of stages.
