Flipsid3 Tactics vs Avangar

ELEAGUE Major 2018 Main Qualifier Day 3,

It is day three and this is the second elimination game of the day. We have Flipsid3 Tactics vs Avangar. Both teams have lost twice so far this event and the loser will be eliminated. The winner will continue fighting for their life as they then have to win 2 more games in a row in order to advance to the main major event.

Flipsid3 Tactics:

Flipsid3 have done nothing to impress me so far this event. After losing their star player Electronic in a trade with NaVi for Seized, the entire team has tanked. In recent form, Flipsid3 has only won five of 18 games played. This team somehow made this qualifier and flashing back a two years ago when I first got into analyzing games, Flipsid3 wasn't terrible and I'm starting to question where they fell off.

Maps for Flipsid3 are all over the place in terms of a map pool. It seems as if they are just trying out every map to see if one will work. In order from most to least played we start with Mirage at 2-5, following up is Train at 2-2, next is Nuke at 1-1, then Overpass at 0-2, Cache at 0-1, Inferno at 0-1 and Cobblestone at 0-1.

Avangar:

Avangar is a team that I don't think anyone expected to do well coming into a high tier event such as this. But winning the CIS Minor for ELEAGUE Major did get them here. I've seen a lot of excellent Counter Strike out of this young team, going toe to toe with the likes of Mousesports and Space Solders. Though only playing on the map Mirage, I would hope to see some diversity in the game with Flipsid3.

Maps for Avangar are a little more stable and well versed than Flipsid3's. Startign from the top we have Mirage at 7-5, next is Inferno at 7-2, Train is 3rd with a record of 4-3, Cache comes in at 5-1, Cobblestone at 2-2, and finally Overpass at 1-2. Nuke is Avangar's perma ban.

Map Pick/Ban:

Both teams seem to very much favor Mirage and since I don't see either team banning out Mirage, that's where we will likely end up. If Avangar decide to throw a curveball into the mix, I'd very much enjoy watching a late ban on Mirage and forcing Flipsid3 onto Inferno; Avangar's second best map, and making them that much more uncomfortable.

Final Thoughts:

Final thoughts with this match up are summed up quite frankly with two low tier teams fighting for their lives on the big stage. Flipsid3 have a lot of work to do if they want to be able to compete with a lot of the younger teams and talents arrising around the world. And on the other hand with Avangar, the up and coming young team needs to find stability and confidence in their craft, they have the talent and I believe with the right IGL they too could compete with tier 2 teams like Space Solders and Mousesports. To wrap it up I feel as if Avangar will take a stern victory over Flipsid3 and send them packing.
