The International is the biggest and most important Dota 2 tournament of the year.
All of the best teams compete for a prize pool that dwarfs any other in esports. The 2016 Prize Pool ended at a whopping $20,770,460 and if tradition holds, the 2017 one will be event bigger.

NoneTournament Format
The qualifiers are split into six regions, China, South-East Asia, CIS, Europe, North America and South America.
Open Qualifiers: Each region will have two open qualifiers each.
All qualifiers will be played out using single elimination brackets.
All matches are played in a Best-of-One setting, except for the two last rounds of each qualifier which are Best-of-Three.
One team advance from each qualifier. The South American qualifiers are exceptions, four teams will advance from the first qualifier and three from the second.
Main qualifier: Each region will start by playing a Round Robin where all teams face each other once in Best-of-One matches. Four teams from the Round Robin advance to the regional playoffs.
Playoffs: The regional playoffs will be played out in double elimination brackets starting in the semifinal.
All matches will be played in a Best-of-Three setting except for Grand Finals which are Best-of-Five.
For Europe and North America, the #1 seed in the Round Robin and the playoffs will advance to the main event.
For SEA and China, the #1 seed in the Round Robin and the two top teams in the playoffs will advance to the main event.
For South America and CIS the winner of the playoffs will advance to the main event.
Group Stage: Eighteen teams, six of the teams are invited twelve are from the qualifiers.
The teams are split into two group of nine. Each group plays a Round Robin with Best-of-Two matches.
For each group, top four advances to the upper bracket of the playoffs, bottom two teams are eliminated from the tournament and the remaining teams are placed in the lower bracket of the playoffs.
Playoffs: The playoffs will use a double elimination bracket.
All matches are Best-of-Three except for the first round of the lower bracket which is a Best-of-One match and the Grand Final which is a Best-of-Five.
